Former AIG executive and seasoned global industry leader Jose Hernandez has resurfaced at international insurer Argo Group.

Hernandez will join the Bermuda-based insurer on October 3 as head of international business, which covers all re/insurance operations outside the US.

“Argo Group has built an impressive international platform,” said Hernandez. “I’m looking forward to joining this first-rate team and continuing the company’s strategic growth around the world.”

Hernandez has almost three decades of industry experience, including over 20 years at AIG where he held a number of senior leadership roles around the world.

He most recently served as president and CEO of AIG Asia Pacific after leading the industry giant’s global accident and health business and its operations in Japan, Korea and Mexico.

Argo Group CEO Mark Watson said Hernandez’s skill in leading and growing international business aligns fully with the company’s ambitions.

“Argo Group has arrived at a critical point in its growth as a global specialty insurance business,” Watson said. “We now have everything we need to drive international business with confidence, and Jose has the talent to help us do just that.”

“We have now reached a point in our development where Jose will bring together our platforms around the world and drive the international operations to the next level,” added David Harris, managing director of ArgoGlobal Syndicate 1200 who has also been appointed as head of performance, a newly created group-level role.
