Chartered insurance broker Aston Lark, which in 2019 became majority owned by Goldman Sachs, has named its first-ever group chief risk officer.

Deloitte veteran Ian Jacob (pictured) took on the newly created post this week, joining Aston Lark’s executive leadership team. The qualified barrister was with the Big Four firm for 13 years and most recently served as a director within the insurance regulation and strategy team.

Jacob’s credentials include his secondment as AXA PPP Healthcare compliance head and as group compliance director of RSA. The regulatory expert is also no stranger to Aston Lark, having assisted in the merger of Aston Scott Group and Lark Group in 2018.

“Aston Lark is widely recognised for the momentum it has built since its merger, with integrity and customers at the core of its strategy,” noted Jacob. “The recent investment by Goldman Sachs continues to drive growth, and I look forward to working with Peter [Blanc] and the Aston Lark team to develop the risk and compliance functions to meet the needs of the evolving group.”

Meanwhile group chief executive Peter Blanc had this to say: “Our team found Ian to be hugely helpful and his guidance through the regulatory landscape will be invaluable as we continue to grow.

“Most brokers that we meet talk about the challenges of regulatory compliance, and having Ian on board will give them comfort that we can be a partner that truly knows what good looks like.”
