Managing general underwriter Carbon Underwriting Limited, the name behind Lloyd’s Syndicate CBN 4747, has brought in Rob Crocker as active underwriter.

Crocker, whose appointment took effect this month, brings more than three decades of industry experience to the role. The W.R. Berkley Europe alumnus made the switch from Everest Re, where he served as active underwriter and professional lines head. Crocker’s credentials also include a notable tenure at XL Catlin.

At Carbon, Crocker will work closely with chief executive Nick Tye, chief underwriting officer Jacqui Ferrier, and chief technology officer Ben Laidlaw, who all co-founded the MGU.

“Rob is a high-calibre individual with extensive experience and a proven track record that make him an invaluable addition to Carbon’s team,” Tye noted. “Rob is a tremendous hire for Carbon, and testament to the very high regard in which our team is held across the market and our ability to attract and retain top talent.

“It is important to consider Rob’s hire as accretive to the existing underwriting management team. Myself, Jacqui, and Ben will all remain actively involved in syndicate underwriting matters and now will have more time to focus on new business opportunities and our exciting and ambitious growth plans at Carbon Syndicate.”

The company’s Syndicate 4747, which began underwriting in the middle of 2020 as a Syndicate in a Box (SIAB), was the first SIAB to transition to a full Lloyd’s syndicate.

The CEO went on to say: “We are confident that Rob’s additional expertise in underwriting will contribute to our continued growth and success.”

Crocker, commenting on his new role, said: “Joining Carbon is a really exciting move for my career – I have been particularly impressed with Carbon’s data-driven and tech-focussed approach to underwriting.

“This strategy combined with the innovative and team-focussed culture at Carbon aligns perfectly with my vision for advancing underwriting practices in today’s dynamic market landscape. With our dedicated expertise, a commitment to innovation, and a focus on delivering exceptional results, I am excited about the opportunities ahead.”
