Managing general underwriter Carbon Underwriting Limited has made things official for finance director Matt Finch, who served in that capacity on a contract basis for 10 months prior to taking on the post permanently before the new year.
“Carbon has an outstanding reputation and a very exciting future,” said the Aviva and Tokio Marine Kiln alumnus whose nearly 25 years of credentials include time spent as Sequitur Risk’s founding partner and chief financial officer.
“Market conditions are favourable and there is a significant opportunity for disciplined, resilient, and innovative businesses like ours to deliver sustained profitable growth for the benefit of our key stakeholders and the communities in which we operate.”
The finance director added that the class-agnostic MGU and Lloyd’s syndicate has a culture that is unique within the market.
“This,” he said, “coupled with its strong technological base and the strength of its team, meant that when Nick [Tye] offered me the permanent role, it was a no-brainer for me. I truly believe that Carbon has an incredibly exciting future, and I am delighted to be a part of that.”
Before Christmas, Carbon announced the successful placement of a new Lloyd’s property consortium with Howden Re. It is the first consortium to be placed via Graphene, Carbon’s bespoke technology ecosystem.
Meanwhile, chief executive Nick Tye noted: “The breadth of Matt’s insurance and financial knowledge makes him a highly valuable member of our management team. His broad commercial acumen, as well as his extensive financial reporting, accounting, regulatory, and project finance experience will help us to accurately measure our performance while capturing and capitalising on the many opportunities that lie ahead.
“Over the last year, we have been able to bring a wealth of expertise into the business, and Matt adds to our bench strength. As a people business, our focus is on ensuring that we have the right talent to execute our strategy and deliver excellence to our clients and business partners. I am delighted that Matt has agreed to join us on a permanent basis.”
