Richard Barke, chief actuary at third-party managing agent Asta, has been appointed to serve on the firm’s Lloyd’s managing agency board.

The executive started his career as an actuarial graduate at KPMG in 2003, and joined Aspen Re in 2007 as a reserving actuary. At Asta, where he has worked since 2011, Barke has been in charge of managing all actuarial activities across the business.

“Richard is an extremely talented and experienced actuary and a valuable member of the Asta team,” commented Asta chief executive Julian Tighe. “His expertise in building, leading, and evolving actuarial operations across our business has been invaluable in ensuring all Asta-managed syndicates hold Solvency II-compliant capital models.”

Barke was among Insurance Business UK’s Young Guns for 2017.

Asta Managing Agency, part of Asta Capital Limited, is responsible for 10 Lloyd’s syndicates and two SPAs (Special Purpose Arrangement), with capacity under management in 2018 of more than £1 billion.
