New year, new employee. Consilium, an international reinsurance broker that is part of the Aventum Group, enters 2022 with a new business development manager (BDM) in the South Region of the UK.

The new BDM, Lee Raikes (pictured), boasts 14 years of experience in the insurance market, including underwriting and broking. He spent three years as an underwriter specialising in sports and leisure for Sports cover and worked with several brokers, including broker FSJ Broking, specialising in commercial general insurance and sports and leisure.

Raikes joins Consilium from Citynet Insurance Brokers, where he was a development executive for the last two years. Previously, he was a development executive for COBRA London Markets for nearly four years.

Consilium now places over US$400 million of premium into Lloyd’s and the London Market, thanks to 25% year-on-year growth for the last five years. In addition, it has relationships with more than 100 A-rated markets, enabling it to deliver niche placement schemes and specialisms to the UK broker market.

Raikes joins Consilium’s existing BDM team that covers all four corners of the UK to give brokers a dedicated point of contact.

Consilium managing director Matt Pini said he is delighted to welcome Raikes to Consilium and Aventum Group.

“He’s a talented and proactive BDM with a huge amount of energy and a growing reputation in the market. Having worked on both the broking and underwriting side of the fence, as well as coming to us with years of experience in business development, he has a good understanding of the needs and challenges that brokers face and the right blend of skills to deliver exemplary service to our broker partners,” Pini added.

The appointment aligns with the reinsurance broker’s goal to remain one step ahead of the market to ensure it continues to offer personal support to its partners while capitalising on potential market growth.

“In the current market environment, brokers need our support now more than ever, so it’s vital that we have such a strong business development team covering all parts of the UK.  I’m delighted that, as a group, we continue to appeal to the best talent in the market,” Pini said.
