First Underwriting has appointed Gemma Stanley (pictured above) as operations director, a newly created role.

Stanley will lead the company’s operations functions and technology transformation programme, both of which are designed to enable continued service to its broker partners. According to the specialist underwriter, it created the position to support further business growth following a prolonged period of profitability.

Stanley joined from IQUW, where she has previously held senior roles within the underwriting function. She was previously head of underwriting transformation for ERS and has also worked in several claims roles.

“I am excited to join First Underwriting at such an exciting and pivotal time in its journey,” Stanley said. “The last four years have been about establishing their roots and demonstrating excellence in underwriting and service. Now, we need to bolster our business and invest in our operations, so that we can continue to deliver the service that First are renowned for.”

“Gemma’s appointment to the First Underwriting team is an important investment for us, as we aim to continue to build on our success to date and add additional capacity to the team to help achieve our goals,” said Tom Donachie, MD of First Underwriting. “This new appointment follows investment earlier in the year, when we created a new First Underwriting real estate team with the appointment of Graham Bailey and Michael Kells, two well-known individuals within the real estate sector.

“Gemma, along with the new real estate team, join us with a wealth of experience and I am excited about what the future holds for First Underwriting.”
