DCJ Group, which is part of Global Risk Partners (GRP), has today announced its acquisition of 100% of the share capital of SM Commercial Insurance Brokers Ltd (SM Commercial). The transaction, which has received regulatory approval, is the third acquisition for DCJ since it became part of GRP in 2018.

SM Commercial was founded in 2006 and, like DCJ, is based in Chesterfield, Derbyshire. The deal will see Steve Higgins, founder and MD remain with the business under new ownership along with the rest of the team.

Commenting on the acquisition, CEO of DCJ Chris Breeze noted that SM Commercial is a highly respected community broker with a reputation for high-quality client servicing. He said he is looking forward to working alongside Higgins and his team to help them take the business to the next level of growth.

Breeze also emphasised that DCJ has an appetite for further acquisitions and is focused on deals where vendors want to be part of a dynamic, entrepreneurial business that is centred on growth and client outcomes.

“I am keen to talk to vendors who want more from their business and are keen to build out their footprint,” he said. “DCJ is fully aligned to vendors who want to do more with their businesses, and, alongside our parent GRP, we create the best possible conditions for brokers to thrive and prosper.”

Higgins added that the team at SM Commercial is excited by the prospect of being part of a bigger family and that he is looking forward to making a step-change in the scale of the firm’s ambitions for the future.

“As part of DCJ, with the extra leverage provided by being part of GRP,” he said, “we will be in a great position to support our clients as the economy emerges from the pandemic.”
