HDI Global Specialty has appointed Jamie Bowes (pictured) as the new general manager for aviation of its Scandinavian branch.

Bowes is a 24-year aviation insurance veteran who has had an extensive international career spanning the London, Australasian, and European markets. He has experience in various facets of the aviation sector, including broking and underwriting.

Bowes first joined HDI Global Specialty in Australia in 2019 as head of general aviation for the Asia-Pacific region. He later moved to the Stockholm office in 2022 as part of a planned succession.

In his new role, which took effect on January 1, Bowes will oversee all classes of aviation business underwritten by the Scandinavian branch, while also leading the Centre of Competence for the group’s global aviation business.

The GM will be responsible for shaping the strategy for the aviation division and seeking to align opportunities both locally and internationally. The internal hire follows the retirement of former general manager Mats Westerborn, who was with the firm from 2019.

“The appointment of Jamie Bowes as the new general manager reflects his expertise and proven leadership in aviation insurance,” said executive board member Thomas Barenthein in an emailed release. “Jamie’s transition from head of general aviation to general manager, a part of our planned succession strategy, ensures that we continue to sharpen our client and broker focus.

“This strategic move underlines our dedication to maintaining and enhancing the highest standards of service and expertise that our clients and partners have come to expect.”

In December, the business named Carl Johan Kansmark as head of aerospace at its Scandinavian branch.
