Specialist insurer Hiscox has announced the appointment of Mike Williams (pictured) as managing director of its Guernsey operations.

He takes on the position from Steve Camm, who will continue as non-executive director for the company.

Williams was most recently the company’s divisional director of crisis management tasked with leading a team of underwriting and claims professionals in delivering specialist services for corporate and private clients, ranging from kidnap and ransom coverage to insurance for fine art collections and classic cars.

He has held several senior roles spanning a decade-long career in the Hiscox London Market, including as major property line underwriter and director of specialty.

“Mike has established an impressive reputation both within Hiscox and with our key partners and clients,” said Jeremy Pinchin, chairman of Hiscox Insurance Company at Guernsey. “His leadership, passion, and commitment have been instrumental in driving growth, and I look forward to working closely with him.”

Hiscox launched its crisis management services in 1996, offering businesses and individuals coverage for global security risks such as kidnapping, extortion, detention, product recall, and piracy through to war, terrorism, and political violence. It has operations across the UK, Europe, and the US, and has also supported clients in high-risk areas in Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.

The insurer works exclusively with specialist risk consultancy Control Risks, which has 36 local offices on the ground in high-risk locations around the world.

“Hiscox has an unrivalled history in crisis management, particularly when it comes to paying claims,” Williams said. “With the support of Control Risks, Hiscox has responded to more than 5,800 special risk cases in 147 countries and has the financial strength, expertise, and relationships to continue to serve our customers around the world.”
