Howden has launched commercial operations in North Wales, marking a further expansion of its Welsh footprint with the appointment of a locally based account executive to support businesses across the region.

The UK broker said the move represents the growth of its commercial team and underlines its continued investment in Wales.

Central to the expansion is the appointment of Nathan Brookefield (pictured) as account executive. Brookefield joins Howden from Lothbury UK Ltd, where he held a similar role, and will be based in Wrexham. In his new position, he will work with commercial clients across North Wales, advising on insurance programmes and helping businesses manage risk with greater confidence.

Howden said Brookefield will also play a role in driving regional growth by developing new business opportunities and helping ambitious firms access the wider range of insurance and risk management services available through the group.

Brookefield said the combination of Howden’s reputation, ownership model and local ambition made the role particularly attractive. “I am thrilled to be a part of Howden’s commercial expansion into North Wales,” he said. “The company’s strong market reputation, its employee ownership model and UK roots were all key factors in my decision to join the team. The opportunity to be part of a business that is actively investing and building its presence in Wrexham and North Wales was particularly appealing.” He added that, having grown up in Wrexham, it was important to him to support local businesses and contribute to the continued growth of the local economy.

Gary Stevens, regional managing director for commercial in Wales at Howden, said the expansion into North Wales is a strategic priority for the broker. “Expanding our commercial presence in North Wales is a key priority for Howden, and Nathan’s appointment is an important step in delivering that ambition,” Stevens said. He added that Brookefield’s experience and strong local knowledge would be instrumental in building long-term client relationships in the region. Stevens also said North Wales would play a central role in the firm’s broader Welsh growth plans.

The launch adds to Howden’s wider UK and Ireland retail platform, which includes more than 7,000 colleagues in over 200 offices and places more than £3 billion in premium across insurance and related financial services.
