Two of our own Insurance Business journalists have been recognised at the 20th annual WTW Media Awards, with Gia Snape winning the title of Insurance & Risk Technology Journalist of the Year and Mia Wallace named Insurance & Risk Profile Interviewer of the Year.

Additionally, Mia was also recognised with a Highly Commended honour in the Insurance & Risk Technology Journalist of the Year category.

The awards ceremony took place at Hispania in London, marking two decades of the event, which celebrates journalism across insurance, pensions, HR, and investment sectors.

Gia, the news editor covering the North American market for Insurance Business, was acknowledged for her reporting despite her primary remit being in the US. Mia, formerly based in the UK, was recognised for her work in the local market before transitioning to a new role overseas.

Insurance Business global editor Paul Lucas said the results reflect the strength and consistency of the brand’s journalism across regions.

"Mia left an incredible mark on the UK market - she is much missed by everyone and deserves every accolade for her tenure here,” he said.

Mia’s recognition at the WTW Media Awards adds to a series of achievements during her tenure at Insurance Business. In 2023, she won the Best Interview/Profile Award at the British Insurance Brokers’ Association (BIBA) Journalist and Media Awards and was also shortlisted for Best Digital or Broadcast Award at the same event.

In previous WTW Media Awards, she was Highly Commended for Reinsurance, Insurance & Risk Profile Interview of the Year in 2021 and named Reinsurance, Insurance and Risk Features Journalist of the Year in 2020.

“Gia's success, meanwhile, is particularly outstanding given that her primary focus is for our Insurance Business America vertical – so to be recognised in the UK too, is a fantastic achievement,” Lucas said.

Insurance Business, which operates in multiple global markets including the UK, US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, has previously received recognition across industry awards for its specialised reporting on insurance and risk. The brand’s coverage spans commercial lines, regulation, distribution, technology, claims, and more.

The WTW Media Awards are decided by four judging panels made up of industry professionals and senior journalists. In total, eleven categories are covered, including two cross-sector honours for Digital and Campaigning Journalist of the Year.

Gaby Joyner, head of Great Britain at WTW, said the milestone year for the awards reflects ongoing engagement from journalists across sectors.

“It pays homage to the talent and passion within the industry and the importance of drawing attention to crucial topics and challenges, through the thought-provoking, high-quality journalism,” Joyner said.
