Global broker Jardine Lloyd Thompson (JLT) has appointed Matthew Carter as a partner in the London market and international division of the company’s reinsurance arm.

To be based in JLT Re’s London office, Carter will lead all structured and non-traditional reinsurance for the UK and Europe. He will also work with the broker’s structured products team in North America.

“JLT Re’s reputation continues to grow and this was an opportunity for me to make a key step in my career,” Carter said.

“It’s great to be working with a team of people who are at the front line of trends and changes that are effecting the reinsurance industry and who have a unique insight into how these forces can be harnessed to meet client needs,” he added.

Carter joins from Guy Carpenter, where he was a senior vice president in the structured products and capital solutions team.

Bradley Maltese, JLT Re deputy CEO in UK and Europe, said Carter has an “excellent market reputation.”

“We are delighted Matthew is joining the team, his knowledge and experience of non-traditional reinsurance products such as multiline aggregate contracts, retrospective covers, internal retention vehicles and capital efficiency, are perfectly aligned to our focus and growing client demand in these areas,” Maltese said.
