Insurance broker JM Glendinning has launched Professional Insurance Training Ltd to provide Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) learning for apprentices and trainee insurance brokers.

JM Glendinning partnered with academics to develop, as well as secure accreditation for, the new programme to be run by Alister Myatt – currently a consultant for the OCR examination board. The first courses will run this month in Yorkshire.

Professional development consultant Myatt has 17 years of programme management experience in business-related qualifications. He has run programmes across the UK and also managed vocational training at Leeds City College for one and a half decades.

“There’s nowhere in the region offering classroom-based training for insurance apprentices,” noted JM Glendinning managing director Nick Houghton.

Citing part-time, day release courses of the past, Houghton said: “Those days are long gone, and the only option is online distance learning, which takes around 18 months to complete.” He added that this wasn’t meeting the needs of employers or trainees.

“What we’re offering is an approach to training that’s in tune with the demands of a modern-day career in insurance,” Houghton explained. “The accelerated, 12-day, classroom-based courses not only help people pass their exams, but retain the knowledge they have acquired.”

Trainees, he said, also learn alongside peers – forming connections to help build networks. Houghton added that employers benefit as well from the accelerated upskilling of trainees and apprentices.

The Professional Insurance Training team is running several pre-arranged intensive Cert CII courses across Yorkshire and the North East over the coming months. The programme may also be run within large firms for employee training.
