Kennedys has named Tobin Ashby as partner for its corporate insurance, financial regulation, and products practice.

Ashby joins Kennedys from Pinsent Masons, where he was most recently serving as a partner. He has more than 18 years of experience in the financial services industry – which includes over 10 years of service with AXA UK as the insurance company’s solicitor and senior counsel.

The global law firm said in a release that the appointment is part of its “strategic drive” to expand its non-contentious services to the insurance sector. In his new role, Ashby will be based in London.

“This is another significant strategic move for Kennedys as we look to strengthen our global non-contentious corporate and commercial insurance offering delivered through specialist hubs in London, Hong Kong, Bermuda, Chicago and Miami (LATAM),” said Kennedys corporate and commercial division head Ben Aram.

Aram added that Kennedys is expecting the impact of the pandemic to lead to an increase in demand for advice relating to insurance products and distribution arrangements; the division head mentioned that he looks forward to partnering with the firm’s clients in navigating these difficult times.

“This latest hire is part of our continued strategy of making hires in areas that will benefit our clients,” said Kennedys senior partner Nick Thomas. “Tobin has a clear understanding of our clients’ business requirements from his time as a senior in-house lawyer and his considerable experience will further enhance our non-contentious practice.”

“This is an exciting opportunity for me to join a firm with a strong reputation in insurance, as well as a global reach. The depth of expertise available at Kennedys will be attractive to my clients and I am looking forward to working with the team to help grow the firm’s corporate and commercial insurance practice,” said Ashby.
