Lloyd’s insurer Lancashire Holdings has bolstered its board with the addition of a former insurance chief executive.

Lancashire announced on Thursday the appointment of 35-year industry veteran Michael Dawson as a non-executive director, effective immediately.

Dawson was also appointed a member of the company’s nomination and corporate governance, remuneration, underwriting and underwriting risk committees.

“Michael has significant Lloyd’s and international market experience that further strengthens the Lancashire board,” said Lancashire chairman Peter Clarke.

Dawson was the chief executive of Goshawk Insurance Holdings and its subsidiary Rosemont Re, a Bermuda reinsurer, from 2005 to 2008. In his role, Dawson helped implement the successful restructuring and run-off of the businesses.

He also served on the Council of Lloyd’s from 1998 to 2001 and on the Lloyd’s Market Board from 1998 to 2002.
