Markel International has appointed Matthew Brooke (pictured above) as war and terrorism underwriter, as the P&C insurer strengthens its capabilities in the war and terrorism market.

Brooke reports to Will Newman, senior underwriter for war and terrorism and head of Africa at Markel International. He is tasked with underwriting the London team’s war and terrorism portfolio of business, developing new opportunities, and forging strong relationships with clients.

With five years of underwriting experience in the terrorism market, Brooke joined Markel from W/R/B Underwriting, where started as an operations assistant and was later promoted to underwriter for the political risk and political violence portfolio.

“We’re excited to welcome Matt,” Newman said. “He expands the team in London and will help implement our long-term strategy. Matt brings experience in underwriting a global portfolio and will help enhance our service to both our brokers and clients – reinforcing our position as a leader in the political violence market.”

“We are excited to have Matt onboard,” said Ed Winter, senior underwriter and head of terrorism at Markel International. “With his knowledge and expertise in the terrorism market, he will bolster the team as we strive to create the best broker and customer experience in the market.”
