As it seeks to attain a market-leading position, Markel International has swooped for Mike Wimbridge (pictured), formerly of Brit.

Wimbridge will take the role of senior yacht underwriter of the company’s marine, energy and property division joining the existing hull and war team led by Jason Page. His responsibilities will include developing and growing the current yacht portfolio.

With more than 30 years’ insurance experience in both underwriting and broking, Wimbridge was most recently yacht underwriter at Brit Global Specialty. His appointment follows recent developments to broaden the range and scope of the marine, energy and property division’s offering, including capabilities in ports and terminals, marine trades, marine equipment and UK marine.

Commenting on the appointment, Paul Jenks, managing director of the division, said “Mike has been in the yacht market for over 20 years and his contacts and experience will support the expansion and development of our existing yacht business and establish us as a leader in the market.

“We are pleased to be again broadening the range of the marine offering to better meet the needs of our clients.”
