Following the announcement of David Croom-Johnson’s retirement, AEGIS London has made another key promotion with Matthew Yeldham as its new chief underwriting officer.

Yeldham (pictured above) is anything but new to the role, having acted as the deputy CUO since 2015.

Prior to joining AEGIS London as a head of casualty in 2010, Yeldham held senior positions at Aspen Insurance Group and Wellington Underwriting. Now, he is set to succeed Alex Powell, who will take Croom-Johnson’s place as CEO when he retires in June.

“I look forward to stepping into the position of AEGIS London CUO later this year as we continue our strategy to deliver sustainable underwriting profit,” Yeldham said. “With so much underwriting talent in our business, I am as committed as I always have been to maintaining our success.”

Powell is looking forward to continuing his close working relationship with Yeldham, with both fresh appointments still subject to regulatory approval.

“In line with our succession plan, Matthew’s appointment is the obvious choice, given his long-standing tenure on the AEGIS London board of directors and the depth of his underwriting knowledge and experience,” Powell said. “He is well placed to help in our pursuit of a broad digitisation, automation and data led strategic agenda across all functions of the business, which will support our ambitions to be a dynamic underwriting platform at the forefront of our markets.”
