Insurance Business UK's LinkedIn poll on London's slide to fifth place in the Global Financial Centres Index's insurance sub-index is producing a close result, with no clear consensus among readers so far.

Of the votes cast so far, 35% said the shift is real, broadly reflecting concerns raised by GFCI 40's insurance-specific data, where London now trails Hong Kong, Singapore, Shenzhen and Shanghai.
Almost as many disagreed. Some 32% said the index draws the wrong comparison, echoing criticism from an anonymous industry source in IBUK's original coverage, who argued that it measures London against hubs that "may not play a similar role in the global industry."
Another 24% acknowledged some risk but said it isn't urgent, while 8% said it is simply too early to tell.
The poll followed IBUK's reporting on Z/Yen's twice-yearly GFCI, which found London had slipped to fifth in the industry-specific rankings behind four Asian centres, even as it retained second place in the overall index.
That reporting also highlighted a striking difference in sentiment: London-based respondents were notably gloomier about their own market's trajectory than professionals in Singapore or Hong Kong were about theirs. At the same time, Lloyd's latest full-year results showed both profit and solvency strengthening.
With the two strongest responses separated by just three percentage points, the question remains open: is London's insurance standing genuinely being challenged, or is the index measuring very different insurance centres against the same yardstick?
