Liberty Specialty Markets has appointed Mylène Martin-Ahmine (pictured) as chief operating officer for Europe. The move adds a senior operations leader to a regional team that has expanded steadily under the carrier's continental growth programme.

Martin-Ahmine brings more than two decades of insurance experience to the role. Most of her career has been spent on the operations side of large-account and reinsurance business. She joins from Swiss Re Corporate Solutions, where she served as head of operations for France and Spain, overseeing end-to-end administration and accounting of insurance contracts for large corporate clients.

Before that, she spent seven years as head of business services at Swiss Re, running reinsurance back-office functions across France, Italy, and Iberia. She started her career at Aon France, where she managed a portfolio of international clients over seven years.

She will report to Pierre-Edouard Fraigneau, president of Liberty Europe, and sit on both the Liberty Operations leadership team and the Liberty Europe leadership team.

Why the hire matters for brokers

The appointment is operational rather than underwriting in focus, and the difference is telling given the scale of Liberty's European ambitions. At that scale, operational precision in contract administration directly affects brokers' ability to place and manage programmes. Martin-Ahmine's background gives her visibility from both sides of that relationship. Her years at Aon France managing international client portfolios preceded more than a decade running operations for large corporate accounts across reinsurance and primary insurance.

In a January interview, Fraigneau named operational efficiency and speed of execution as central to how the carrier differentiates itself in Europe. The COO appointment puts a dedicated executive in charge of delivering that at the regional level.

Building out the leadership team

The carrier has been building out its footprint under an "Invest in Europe 2030" programme that includes geographic expansion, digitisation, and multinational programme development. Martin-Ahmine's appointment is the latest in a sequence of senior hires under Fraigneau as Liberty executes that strategy. The carrier named David Saillen as European chief underwriting officer in January and appointed Rob Groenen as head of portfolio solutions for Europe. Alexandra Weigel joined as head of multinational for Europe in September 2025.

Each hire has targeted a specific functional gap: underwriting discipline, portfolio structure, multinational programme capability, and now operational infrastructure. Fraigneau said Martin-Ahmine would deliver "a significant contribution" to the Invest in Europe business strategy and its associated projects and deliverables.

Liberty currently operates in seven countries across Europe and offers products across more than 20 lines of business.
