It’s a breakthrough deal for insurance broker Thompson & Richardson.

In what marks its first acquisition since becoming an Ethos Broking regional partner, the firm has confirmed a swoop for Scunthorpe-based independent broker Johnstone Insurance Brokers. The latter, which was established in 1983, is led by Chris Harper, Mark Broome and Mike Williams, with an additional 12 staff onboard – all of whom are set to remain with the firm.

Speaking on the deal, Chris Travers, director at Thompson & Richardson, outlined that the general commercial brokerage was a good fit thanks to its strong links within the community and its people-oriented approach.

“It’s fantastic to be announcing our first purchase and we are delighted to have found the right partner,” he said.

“Chris Harper leads an extremely close-knit team who have worked together for a long time. Over the last 30 years the team has focused on client care as a priority and client retention is extremely strong, bearing testament to the quality of service and professionalism of their broking team.”

Meanwhile, Ethos Broking M&A director Vince Gardner noted that the Thompson & Richardson is “hugely ambitious” and is mindful of purchasing the right brokerages to complement its offering despite already having a “strong position” within Lincolnshire.
