Major insurer XL Catlin has launched an emergency security and disaster evacuation (ESDE) solution for companies with employees that work across many countries.

The company said the new product responds to the needs of firms that lack access to immediate logistical support when evacuating employees from areas affected by political emergencies or natural disasters.

Underwritten out of London, Guernsey, Hong Kong and Singapore, the new product covers expenses such as the cost of transportation, accommodation and salary continuation.

The coverage also gives companies round-the-clock access to Drum Cussac, one of the world’s leading emergency evacuation response experts.

“We’ve seen how natural disasters, political violence, coups d’état can appear with little or no warning and have wide-ranging consequences for the people they affect. In recent times the Arab Spring is one such noteworthy example,” said Stephen Ashwell, chief underwriting officer for crisis management at XL Catlin.

“Evacuations are not only costly; they can also be very complicated and stressful for individuals,” Ashwell added. “As such, we’ve designed the ESDE solution to help companies protect their employees in the wake of these unforeseen and high impact events.”
