Zurich and Greater Than have signed an agreement with electric car subscription service Onto, which the companies say will help them in their mission to improve road safety.

In a statement, the companies said that Onto’s entire EV fleet is now connected to Greater Than’s Enerfy AI Risk Portfolio Tracker. The data gathered will help Zurich and Onto get a better understanding of the fleet’s risk – which will then be used to guide the future launch of features, such as loyalty programmes and rewards.

The EV fleet will send driving data to the Enerfy AI via existing hardware in the cars, making each trip a source of valuable data for Onto and Zurich.

This is part of a growing trend in motor insurance towards telematics, which collects various data from vehicles to gain a better picture of risk and aid in underwriting and other stages of the insurance process.

“This partnership further cements our commitment to being a transparent, dynamic and agile insurance partner – always putting road safety and accident prevention centre stage,” said Darren Stoddart, senior fleet underwriter at Zurich. “We continue to collaborate with Greater Than to advance these goals, as their platform provides shared access to unique risk data, both to us and our customers.”

“We are keen to leverage new technology to understand our customer base better with an eye to developing new tailored solutions,” added Paul Sykes, head of maintenance & procurement at Onto. “The risk and pricing data we have access to contains various opportunities for new fun offerings, all the while increasing every customer’s safety.”
