“Insure our future, not fossil fuels.”

That is the message that the Insure Our Future network is sending specifically to AIG, Lloyd’s, and Tokio Marine today through physical and digital actions in the UK, Japan, South Korea, and the US.

The global coalition also released a full-page advertisement in the Financial Times, referring to the trio as “the coal insurers of last resort,” highlighting that 24 others have already stopped insuring coal projects.

Aside from the scheduled demonstrations outside the Lloyd’s, AIG, and Tokio Marine offices, climate campaigners also emailed the organisations’ chief executives and senior-level officials to demand that they join their industry peers in shunning coal coverage.

“If they are at all serious about protecting the planet, Lloyd’s needs to do what so many other insurers are doing and quit coal now,” said SumOfUs senior campaigner Flora Rebello Arduini.
