To take its hybrid work system to the next level, commercial insurance broker hubb is utilising the metaverse to hold virtual reality (VR) employee meetings.

The company explained that it is now regularly holding meetings through the metaverse’s Horizon Workrooms, all thanks to hubb’s investment in VR devices. hubb has also billed itself as “the world’s first metaverse-ready insurance broker.”

hubb also stated in a release that the decision to leverage VR facilitates the onboarding of new employees by providing instant access to senior staff “in a more personal and productive manner than video meetings,” while enabling workers to operate from their homes.

Notably, hubb’s VR ambitions do not stop at just employee meetings, as the company also revealed in a release that it is engaging with a “metaverse accelerator” to allow the broker to keep abreast of future developments of the technology, which hubb has called an “evolving cultural and professional phenomenon.”

“This move towards the virtual environments of the metaverse isn’t just a convenient working practice – it also emblematises our client-led philosophy, allowing us to literally meet our customers where they are, whether that be a sunny beachfront or the summit of Everest,” said hubb chief operating officer Edward Halsey (pictured).

Halsey added that hubb has not only used the metaverse for meetings, but also to engage with some clients.

“By becoming the first metaverse-ready insurance broker, we’re ensuring that we won’t miss an opportunity to put clients at their ease – wherever they are and whatever their preferences,” he said.
