AXA XL has made three broker-facing leadership appointments in its Americas operation since January 2026 - a pattern that points to a deliberate effort to deepen its distribution infrastructure with named broker networks rather than manage relationships through generalist teams.

The latest hire is Allen Kwan, appointed head of broker management on AXA XL's US broker management team. Based in New York, Kwan will focus specifically on supporting Aon and NFP brokers, with responsibilities spanning strategic relationship-building, growth initiatives and connectivity across AXA XL's insurance products and risk management solutions. He reports to Liz Rychling, AXA XL's head of broker relations for large commercial and mid-market business in the Americas.

Kwan joins from Swiss Re Corporate Solutions, where he led US customer and distribution management, overseeing broker strategy, strategic customer engagement and initiatives across underwriting, international programs and alternative risk transfer. He joined Swiss Re Corporate Solutions in 2012 as a property underwriter and advanced through senior roles in regional sales and distribution management. Earlier in his career he held operations and underwriting roles at Zurich Insurance and Beazley, building expertise in multinational property programs, cyber and financial lines.

Rychling said the hire fills a connector role between broker partners and product leadership. "Allen brings a strong blend of underwriting expertise, distribution leadership and a proven record of improving the broker and client experience. He will be a key link between our Aon and NFP broker partners and AXA XL's product leaders, ensuring brokers have direct access to the specialized expertise and innovative solutions they need to help clients manage risk and grow," she said.

The broader hiring pattern

The Kwan appointment follows two earlier hires that established the same distribution-focused logic. In January, AXA XL named Rychling herself to her current broker relations role, having previously served as senior vice president of risk management at MGM Resorts International - a client-side background that brings direct experience of how large commercial buyers evaluate and use broker relationships. In February, AXA XL appointed Ainsley Keating as head of the East region for general industries, mid-market, Americas, deepening broker coverage across the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and Southeast.

Three appointments in six months, each focused on broker connectivity in a specific geography or relationship segment, reflects a carrier investing in the human infrastructure of distribution at a moment when large commercial insurance relationships are increasingly competed for at the broker management level rather than purely on price and product.
