Church-focused agency rebrands from KingsCover

KingsCover Insurances, a specialty agency serving churches and ministries, has rebranded as Dominion First Insurance Services LLC.

The company said the change affects the name only: ownership, leadership, staffing and existing client policies remain unaffected, with the same team continuing to manage the agency's book of business.

Dominion First retains its position as the Agency Partner of Texas Baptists and a premier partner in the KingsCover Underwriters program, a Risk Theory company. As the program's largest agency by book of business, Dominion First holds a premier partner designation that the agency says translates into pricing, terms and claims-handling advantages other firms serving the church and ministry niche cannot match.

Lauren Howard, the agency's vice president, tied the new name to the firm's mission.

"As our agency has continued to grow, we wanted a name that better reflects who we are, our mission, and where we're headed. Dominion First represents our commitment to faithful stewardship, while our commitment to clients remains exactly the same," Howard said.

A young agency with fast, verifiable growth

Since launching on November 1, 2025, the agency has delivered more than $3 million in estimated premium savings to clients, grown to more than 400 church and ministry clients, and expanded licensing across 16 states, including Florida, Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

Craig Christina, associate executive director for Texas Baptists, noted the program's origins when it first launched under the KingsCover name: the Baptist General Convention of Texas created it in partnership with Risk Theory specifically to give member churches access to affordable, A-rated coverage after years of rising premiums and shrinking market appetite for ministry risk.

The agency operates exclusively in the church and ministry space, covering property and general liability, specialty lines including crime, kidnap and ransom, employment practices liability, directors and officers, and abuse and molestation coverage, alongside employee benefits liability, workers' compensation, hired and non-owned auto, cyber liability, excess coverage and mission travel protection.

As an independent agency, Dominion First also maintains access to markets beyond the KingsCover Underwriters program, letting it place risks that fall outside that program's appetite.

Why underwriting discipline matters more than pricing alone in this niche

The church and ministry insurance market has narrowed considerably over the past decade, with fewer carriers willing to write coverage as abuse and molestation claims, in particular, have grown more severe and more frequently litigated.

Underwriters in this space increasingly evaluate a congregation on specific, documented practices rather than treating churches as a uniform risk class: background screening for staff and volunteers working with children, two-adult supervision rules in youth ministry, formal check-in and check-out procedures, and functioning governance structures with clear bylaws and financial controls all factor directly into whether, and how affordably, a church can secure coverage.

For a program built specifically around church risk, that backdrop makes underwriting discipline and claims-handling scale more commercially relevant than a simple pricing pitch, which is precisely what Dominion First is emphasizing through its premier partner positioning within KingsCover Underwriters.

That positioning also reflects a broader industry pattern. US managing general agents wrote roughly $102.6 billion in direct premium in 2025, up 12% from the prior year, with growth in the MGA segment consistently outpacing the wider property-casualty market as carriers lean on specialized underwriting expertise in niches like church and ministry risk, where delegated authority and deep vertical knowledge carry a genuine pricing and appetite edge over generalist markets.

Why this matters for agents serving the faith-based market

For independent agents with church, ministry or nonprofit clients, Dominion First's premier partner status within KingsCover Underwriters is worth noting as a potential referral or co-placement resource for accounts that fall within its specialty appetite, particularly abuse and molestation coverage, where capacity has tightened industry-wide.

Agents whose own carrier relationships have grown more restrictive on ministry risk, especially around youth-facing programs, may find it useful to understand what documentation and risk-management practices programs like this one are actually underwriting toward, since those same standards are likely to matter regardless of which specific agency or program ultimately places the coverage.
