Cyber security and risk experts believe that cyber risk is system and warn that simultaneous attacks on multiple companies are likely this year.

A survey by AIG found that more than half of respondents believe that there could be simultaneous on 5 to 10 companies in the next year. A third see a 50% risk of an attack hitting as many as 50 companies at once while 20% think there’s a more than even chance that 100 would be simultaneous hit.

“While data breaches and cyber related attacks have become more prevalent for individual businesses, concern about systemic cyber-attacks are on the minds of those in the very community dedicated to analyzing and preventing this threat,” Tracie Grella, Global Head of Cyber Risk Insurance, AIG.

Financial services is the sector most at risk the respondents say followed by power/energy, telecoms/utilities, healthcare and IT.
