A Mississippi funeral home owner has been arrested for defrauding his customers in relation to the collection of life insurance premiums.

Kimredell Dotson, 42, has been indicted on four counts of fraud. Dotson is accused of collecting premiums on two separate life insurance policies and failing to forward them to the insurance company.

Prosecutors said that Dotson collected premiums from his customers, telling them he was forwarding their payments to Security National Life Insurance Company. However, Dotson didn’t turn the money over to Security National, according to the Mississippi attorney general’s office.

The alleged fraud was discovered during an investigation by the secretary of state’s office and the Mississippi Insurance Department. The case was then referred to the AG’s Insurance Integrity Enforcement Bureau.

Dotson faces up to 40 years in prison if convicted.
