GEICO has announced a partnership with Napheesa Collier (pictured), a five-time WNBA All-Star, two-time Olympic gold medalist, Minnesota Lynx forward and co-founder of the Unrivaled basketball league.

The deal follows GEICO's recently announced partnership with the Minnesota Lynx and is part of a broader investment in women's basketball the insurer has been building throughout 2026.

The partnership will span social content, community activations and appearances across the 2026 WNBA playoffs, the offseason and Unrivaled's third season. GEICO said the focus will be on Collier's life beyond basketball, as an athlete, entrepreneur and mother, rather than purely on-court content.

Arianna Orpello, GEICO's chief marketing officer, said the partnership reflects a deliberate content strategy rather than simple sports sponsorship. "Phee is one of the most accomplished players in the game, but she's also a founder, a mom and someone helping shape where the sport goes next," she said.

GEICO's broader marketing comeback

The Collier partnership is part of a marketing escalation that carries direct competitive significance for the auto insurance market.

Insurance Business has reported that GEICO resumed heavier advertising spend in 2026 after several years of pulling back to rebuild its underwriting margins, a retrenchment that allowed Progressive to overtake State Farm as the largest private auto insurer in the US. The Minnesota Lynx deal and the Collier signing are part of that renewed push, positioning GEICO in a high-profile, high-growth sports category at exactly the moment it is trying to reclaim market share from a competitor whose own underwriting margins have been showing signs of strain.

GEICO is the third-largest auto insurer in the US, founded in 1936 and writing personal auto in all 50 states and Washington DC as a member of the Berkshire Hathaway family of companies. It also writes commercial auto, personal umbrella and, through the GEICO Insurance Agency, homeowners, renters, condo, flood, identity theft and term life coverage through non-affiliated carriers.

Why this matters for the auto insurance market

Sports sponsorships rarely move insurance market-share figures on their own, but GEICO's specific strategy, two WNBA deals in quick succession targeting a younger, high-engagement audience, fits a broader pattern of carriers using brand investment to re-establish consumer consideration at a moment when auto insurance shopping rates remain elevated.

Insurance Business has reported that the LexisNexis Q2 2026 Insurance Demand Meter found 47.2% of all auto policies in force had been shopped at least once in the prior 12 months, keeping the market near historic highs.

For agents writing GEICO's agency channel, a sustained brand investment push from the carrier suggests continued support for distribution-level growth rather than a purely direct-only marketing strategy.
