This week's moves include another senior trucking hire at an AI-focused carrier, a leadership change at two MGAs owned by RedBird Capital, and appointments in insurance technology, coverage litigation and commercial broking.
Corgi Insurance has appointed Daniel Oldham (pictured, left) as head of underwriting for trucking. He will oversee risk selection, pricing, portfolio management, product development and broker relationships for Corgi’s trucking business.
Oldham was previously vice president and head of transportation at Canopius Group, where he grew the transportation book from $10 million to $39 million while keeping it profitable. While there, he also launched a cannabis transportation program and an admitted trucking program. He has also held underwriting roles at NBIS and Great West Casualty Company, and started his career in brokerage.
Oldham’s arrival follows Corgi’s appointment of Stephen Segroves as head of pricing for its trucking program last month. Hiring for both pricing and underwriting in quick succession points to a serious push into commercial auto.
Law firm Clyde & Co has hired Ani Tolmoyan (pictured, center) as a partner in its California automotive and warranty litigation practice in Los Angeles. She joins from Lewis Brisbois, where she advised automotive manufacturers on California warranty litigation.
California’s warranty and consumer protection laws generate significant litigation for carmakers, dealers and their insurers, especially as new vehicle technologies raise new liability questions.
Duck Creek has promoted William Magowan (pictured, right) to chief sales officer, leading its global sales organization.
Magowan has been with the core systems provider, cumalatively, for more than 13 years and was most recently senior vice president of sales, a role he had expanded from North America to EMEA and APAC.
CEO Hardeep Gulati said Duck Creek was entering its 2027 fiscal year from a position of strength, after one of the largest years of new bookings in its history.
Carriers’ investment in core systems and AI underwriting tools will shape how quickly they can quote, bind and service business through brokers.
Bishop Street Underwriters, a RedBird Capital Partners portfolio company, has promoted Rick Fiato to the new role of chief business officer. He will lead legal, compliance and human resources across Bishop Street and its operating companies.
Fiato was chief executive of Conifer Insurance Services (CIS) and president of Aerospace Insurance Managers (AIM). Bill Wilson succeeds him in both roles. Wilson spent more than a decade in leadership at VGM Insurance, where he built an agent and broker network covering all 50 states and expanded specialty programs in healthcare, golf and hospitality. Fiato will stay on the boards of CIS and AIM to support the transition.
Agents placing hospitality and specialty programs with Conifer now have a leader with a background in building programs and distribution networks. That suggests growth through agency partnerships is a priority.
Starkweather & Shepley has hired Robert Saucier as a commercial risk advisor in its Naples, Florida office. He has 20 years of experience, focused on construction and contracting, manufacturing, and wholesale distribution.
The hire adds construction and contracting expertise in Southwest Florida, a fast-growing market where contractor and builder’s risk exposures continue to rise.
