A set of senior appointments across the global insurance industry this week spans association leadership, AI innovation, retirement solutions and medical underwriting. Geneva Association, HUB International, Lumos Insurance and Hanover Re US all confirmed new roles.

HUB International appoints vice president of AI sales innovation

HUB International has appointed Faizal Mitha (pictured, left) to the newly created role of vice president of AI sales innovation, effective July 1.

The position is designed to accelerate new business generation and equip producers with AI-powered tools across HUB's Commercial Lines, Personal Lines, Private Clients, Retirement and Private Wealth, as well as Employee Benefits business lines.

Mitha will build on HUB's deployment of Anthropic's Claude platform, which was rolled out to the firm's 20,000 employees beginning in Q4 2025. He will work closely with HUB's AI and Automation Team to track adoption and measure impact on organic growth.

Mitha brings more than two decades of experience in innovation, employee benefits and digital leadership. He joined HUB through a 2018 acquisition and most recently served as Chief Sales and Innovation Officer of HUB Canada Employee Benefits and Retirement. Earlier in his career he co-founded one of Canada's fastest-growing insurtech companies, using AI and big data to support insurance decisions and on-demand benchmarking for benefits design.

Hannover Re US appoints medical director

Hannover Life Reassurance Company of America has appointed Elena Strunk (pictured, center) as vice president and medical director, effective immediately.

In the role, she will lead efforts to modernize medical assessment practices, advance underwriting innovation and strenghten medical oversight and governance.

Strunk brings more than a decade of academic emergency medicine experience alongside insurance industry roles at two leading carriers, where she contributed to underwriting guideline development and claims staff training.

Lumos Insurance names managing director of global retirement and protection

Lumos Insurance, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hoplon Capital, has appointed Tom Kenny (pictured, right) as managing director and senior vice president of global retirement and protection.

Kenny will establish Lumos' reinsurance operations and expand its senior-market business in the UK, US and globally. He joins from Just Group plc, where he served as group property and credit risk director and spent 14 years across pricing, product development, and property management.

Earlier in his career he established the bulk purchase annuity pricing team at Partnership Assurance and has held roles at MetLife, Munich Re, Asteron Life and Willis Towers Watson.

Lard Friese appointed chair of the Geneva Association

The Geneva Association has appointed Lard Friese, CEO of Aegon, as chair, following his election at the organization's spring 2026 board meeting on June 3.

Friese, who has served as vice chair since November 2024, succeeds Lee Yuan Siong, group chief executive and president of AIA, who will remain on the board.

Two further members were elected to the board at the general assembly on June 4, namely, Christoph Jurecka, chair of the board of management at Munich Re, and Tim Sweeney, chairman, president and CEO of Liberty Mutual Insurance.
