Retail insurance broker McGriff has announced today the promotion of executive vice president Milton Smith (pictured above) to the position of national director of surety. In his new role, Smith will assume responsibility for overseeing the firm's surety operations.

“With his extensive knowledge and experience in surety, demonstrated leadership, and longstanding commitment to the industry, we are confident that Milton will bring these same qualities to this exciting new role,” said Read Davis, McGriff CEO of specialty and middle market.

Smith joined McGriff in 2000. He has more than 27 years of industry experience, with special expertise in commercial surety and surety for construction-related risks. He has been actively involved with the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) for more than two decades, serving in key leadership roles such as chair of the national AGC Service and Supply Steering Committee and AGC's Construction Leadership Council.

Locally, he has also held the position of president of the Birmingham chapter's Associates Board. Additionally, Smith is engaged with the National Association of Surety Bond Producers, Associated Builders and Contractors, the Construction Financial Management Association, and various other industry-related organizations.

Smith’s appointment is the latest for McGriff. In January, the company named Walter Viteri senior vice president and commercial sales leader for its South Florida region. The month before, McGriff named Taylor Mitcham as area managing executive for Arkansas.
