Sompo International, a provider of property and casualty insurance and reinsurance based in Bermuda, has announced the appointment of Jonathan Monks and Ben Tasse as senior vice presidents of business development for the company’s US insurance platform. Monks and Tasse will report to Chris Sparro, CEO of US insurance.

In their new roles, Monks and Tasse will be responsible for broker-agent relations and business development strategies. Monks will focus on retail distribution partners, while Tasse will focus on wholesale distribution partners. Both will be based in Sompo International’s New York City office.

Monks has more than 20 years of relationship-management and large-account distribution experience, primarily at Marsh and AIG. Prior to joining Sompo International, he spent nearly 10 years in management roles in AIG Property & Casualty’s New York region. He holds a master’s degree from the University of California at Berkeley and a bachelor’s degree in political science from Boston College.

Tasse joins the company from AXIS Capital, where he held various underwriting and managerial positions. Most recently, he served as vice president, professional liability underwriter and manager in AXIS Capital’s Private Equity and Venture Capital Team. Tasse holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from Siena College.

“With Jon and Ben assuming these new roles in our US insurance operation, we will be able to build on their experience and producer networks to further expand our presence in the markets we service,” Sparro said. “As we continue to add new talent and specialty capabilities to our organization, we look forward to broadening our distribution network, developing new strategic initiatives and strengthening existing partnerships.”
