Starkweather & Shepley, the largest independent agency in Rhode Island and one of the nation’s largest insurance brokers, has announced the acquisition of a Connecticut agency and the opening of a new location in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., with O’Neill & Co. Insurance Group.
Starkweather & Shepley has acquired the Wilson Agency, a Shelton, Conn., agency founded in 1953 by Charles Wilson. Current agency principals are Charlie Wilson Jr., Thomas Wilson and James Wilson.

The Wilsons, along with personal lines associate Diane Lucas, will continue to serve clients from their current location.
The company also celebrated the opening of a new Florida location with O’Neill & Co. Insurance Group. Founded by Kyle O’Neill, the company has been a strategic partner of Starkweather & Shepley since last year. O’Neill & Co. provides in-depth consultation for property and casualty insurance programs.
