Chubb has promoted Richard Barnett to the role of executive vice president, head of North America construction surety.

As head of construction surety for North America, Barnett will be responsible for the underwriting, strategy and product management of construction surety products and services offered through the company’s global large accounts segment. He will be based in Whitehouse Station, NJ and report to Chubb Group vice president, division president for North America surety and chief underwriting officer Stephen Haney.

Barnett most recently served as surety director of engineering and construction; a role where he had underwriting responsibility for Chubb’s large construction clients. He started working at Chubb in 1986 as a surety underwriter, later serving in a variety of leadership roles with increasing responsibilities in both North America and internationally.

Barnett received his bachelor's degree in business administration and economics from Wartburg College, Waverly, IA. He also has a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation.

"Rich has close to four decades of global surety experience, with 35 years of them being at Chubb," commented Stephen Haney. "Having someone of his caliber and global underwriting experience in this role will help us continue to provide qualifying firms the surety capacity needed to support a wide range of projects."
