Zurich Insurance Group has hired three-decade industry veteran Timothy Powell (pictured), who will be based in Switzerland, as global head of financial lines and cyber effective May 24.

“I am delighted to welcome Timothy to the team,” stated Ralph Brand, global head of casualty, financial lines, and cyber at Zurich. “His very strong underwriting background and his long experience of leading international teams make him an ideal fit for this role.

“I have every confidence that he will help us leverage the combined expertise and resources of financial lines and cyber to enhance underwriting services to our customers.”

Designed to simplify Zurich’s offering, the newly created role will see Powell work closely with the insurer’s country offices. Zurich said he will provide product expertise and counsel to optimize underwriting performance, foster a consistent underwriting approach across regions, and ensure a balanced product mix.

Powell – whose area of responsibility spans professional indemnity, directors’ and officers’ liability, mergers and acquisitions, financial institutions, employers’ liability, and cyber insurance – most recently served as chief underwriting officer for international financial lines at AXA XL.
