Jencap Group has acquired Concorde General Agency, a Fargo, North Dakota-based wholesaler specialising in farm and ranch, personal lines and commercial insurance across the upper Midwest. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Concorde will continue operating under its existing brand as part of Jencap Insurance Services, the division Jencap uses to house acquired regional wholesalers while preserving their local identity and carrier relationships.
Founded in 1981 by Darrell Bjornson, Concorde has grown into a wholesaler serving more than 2,000 independent agencies across eleven states: North Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, Colorado, Arizona, Idaho, Washington and Oregon. Its book concentrates on hard-to-place risk - farm and ranch package coverage, short-term rental exposures, and specialty commercial accounts that larger, more standardised wholesalers routinely decline.
Hanna said the deal gives Concorde's team access to additional products, markets and expertise while expanding its geographic reach. Maher said the acquisition strengthens Jencap's presence in the upper Midwest and expands the specialty products available to agency partners in the region.
Jencap was formed by The Carlyle Group in 2016 and is now majority owned by Harvest Partners, with Carlyle and Oak Hill Capital continuing as minority investors. It has grown almost entirely through acquiring established regional wholesalers rather than building new offices, folding each into Jencap Insurance Services while keeping their local branding and relationships intact. The company now supports more than 17,000 independent agency partners nationally across wholesale brokerage, binding authority and programme management.
The Delta General Agency acquisition in 2022 followed the same pattern - a 60-year-old Houston-based wholesaler that continued operating under its own name within JCIS before eventually rebranding. Concorde's 44-year track record in the upper Midwest and its existing relationships with more than 2,000 agencies are the assets Jencap is buying, not the business model.
OPTIS Partners recorded 292 US insurance agency and MGA transactions in the first half of 2026, with private equity-backed buyers accounting for approximately 75% of deals. Regional MGAs and programme administrators with specialist books - exactly the profile Concorde fits - have become consistent acquisition targets as national platforms seek geographic coverage and product niches they cannot replicate organically.
For independent agencies in the upper Midwest placing farm, ranch and specialty personal lines through Concorde, Jencap's ownership is likely to mean expanded carrier access and additional product lines layered onto Concorde's existing relationships, based on how Jencap has managed comparable regional acquisitions previously. Whether the local responsiveness that makes a specialist wholesaler worth using survives that process is the question the Delta General precedent is still answering.
