Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. has acquired Mund Group, an employee benefits agency based in New Braunfels, Texas. Terms were not disclosed.
Mund Group provides benefits consulting and health and welfare programs to businesses in Texas. Jeff Mund, Brandon Mund, Kristopher Mund and their team will stay in their current location under Leah Vetter, head of Gallagher’s Central region employee benefits consulting operations.
“The Mund Group has a long-standing reputation in their community and will expand our employee benefits capabilities in Texas,” said J. Patrick Gallagher Jr., Gallagher’s chairman and chief executive.
The deal adds benefits consulting capacity at a time when employers are under pressure from rising health costs. According to KFF’s Employer Health Benefits Survey, average annual premiums for employer-sponsored family coverage reached $26,993 in 2025, up 6% on the previous year. That was the third consecutive year of increases of 6% or more.
KFF said early reports suggested that cost trends would be higher in 2026, which could lead to bigger premium increases unless employers offset them through changes to benefits, cost sharing or plan design. The 2026 edition of the survey is due on October 22.
For benefits brokers, rising costs make advice more valuable. Employers looking to control spending on GLP-1 drugs, specialty pharmacy and hospital prices are increasingly turning to consultants to redesign plans, consider self-funding and manage pharmacy benefits. That makes established benefits agencies with strong local relationships attractive targets for national brokers.
The deal also continues the consolidation of benefits agencies in Texas, one of the largest and fastest-growing employer markets in the country. Independent benefits agencies in the region face more competition from national brokers with the data, carrier leverage and specialist pharmacy and analytics resources that smaller firms find hard to match.
For Gallagher, which completes dozens of acquisitions each year, Mund Group adds local presence in the San Antonio-Austin corridor, one of Texas’s fastest-growing areas.
