Ignyte Insurance has acquired InsureMyTrip, a travel insurance marketplace that has helped more than 6 million travellers compare and purchase coverage since its founding in 2000.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
InsureMyTrip, headquartered in Warwick, Rhode Island, will continue operating under its existing brand and carrier network. The company has generated more than 100,000 customer reviews with an average rating of 4.7 out of 5, and offers comparison and purchase options spanning trip cancellation, travel medical, evacuation, cruise, student travel and annual protection plans, categories overseen in the US by the U.S. Travel Insurance Association, the industry's principal trade body.
InsureMyTrip joins five existing Ignyte travel brands: ISO Student Health Insurance, Envisage Global Insurance, AllClear, InsureandGo and International Student Insurance.
Notably, AllClear and InsureandGo are not new additions built from scratch by Ignyte; both were acquired in May 2024 by NSM Insurance Group, the specialty insurer Ignyte's current leadership previously ran, in a deal that brought the two UK travel brands, serving more than three million customers across the UK, Ireland and Australia, under NSM's ownership.
Ignyte itself only came into existence in February 2026, when NSM Insurance Group split into two separate businesses.
Its US commercial property and casualty division was sold to New Mountain Capital and rebranded as Novacore, while Ignyte emerged as a standalone specialty platform led by former NSM chief executive Geof McKernan, along with Bill McKernan and Marc Castellucci.
In effect, this acquisition continues assembling substantially the same travel insurance portfolio McKernan's team built once already under NSM, now under new ownership and a new name.
InsureMyTrip has continued innovating within its own niche well after its 2000 founding. The company introduced an all-inclusive travel insurance policy earlier this year combining emergency medical cover, baggage protection and trip cancellation into a single plan, and has separately built out its Cancel For Any Reason offering, one of the fastest-growing segments of the US travel insurance market since the pandemic.
The company has also positioned itself as a source of practical consumer guidance on timing-sensitive coverage questions, warning travellers ahead of this year's hurricane season that standard policies typically only cover storm-related losses if purchased before a storm is officially named, since insurers generally treat a named storm as a "known event" excluded from new policies.
Geof McKernan, chief executive of Ignyte Insurance, said travel is an important and growing part of Ignyte's strategy, and that the company has been steadily building a portfolio of highly regarded businesses serving travellers across global markets. He said InsureMyTrip's brand equity, longstanding carrier relationships and loyal customer base built over 25 years make it a natural addition, with significant opportunity to invest behind that foundation and help the business accelerate its next stage of growth.
McKernan added that Ignyte acquires businesses it believes in already, seeing an opportunity to help them achieve more, and welcomed InsureMyTrip's team to continue innovating and scaling as part of the group.
Ignyte said its portfolio businesses collectively manage more than $650 million in premium and serve millions of customers across the US, UK, Europe and Australia. The company's own website has separately described the platform as managing more than $1 billion in premium, a figure that may reflect a different reporting period or updated post-acquisition totals.
What makes this deal notable is less the acquisition itself, a fairly standard consolidation move in a travel insurance market that has seen steady roll-up activity for years, and more what it reveals about how quickly a leadership team backed by private equity can rebuild a nearly identical business after a corporate split.
Having built NSM's travel insurance arm through acquisitions including AllClear and InsureandGo, then losing direct control of that structure when NSM's commercial division was carved out and sold separately, McKernan's team is now reassembling comparable travel insurance scale under a new corporate vehicle within months of that split completing.
For competitors and carriers in the travel insurance marketplace space, that suggests further consolidation activity from Ignyte specifically is likely rather than a one-off transaction.
