McLardy McShane Insurance Brokers (McLardy McShane) has raised over $100,000 through its golf challenge to support FightMND, an organisation led by AFL legend Neale Daniher that focuses on finding a cure for motor neurone disease (MND).

On February 11, the insurance brokerage held the FightMND golf challenge 2022 at Portsea GC, an invitation-only event with a capacity of 128 people.

The event kicked off with a Canadian Foursome-style golf tournament. It also featured an additional challenge, where the participants must beat the scores of McLardy McShane founders Don McLardy and Mike McShane, who will donate an additional $250 if they lose. However, if the founders win, the participants must donate $250.

The event, which has been sold out for three years, started with McLardy's idea of getting a group of colleagues and friends together to network, have some fun, and raise money for a great cause – all in the surrounds of the Mornington Peninsula.

This year's sponsors include:

  • Bayside Coaches (major sponsor);
  • Volvo Cars Melbourne;
  • JM Gillies;
  • Secureyourworld.com.au;
  • Select Harvests;
  • Guest Group;
  • BDO;
  • Australian Corporate Jet Centres;
  • Maxxpro;
  • The Hassett Group;
  • ACC Group;
  • Brolec;

  • Johns Lyng Group;
  • Higgins Coatings;
  • Anglo Italian;
  • Timeless Watches;

Commenting on this year's golf challenge, McLardy said: “Special thanks again to all our sponsors, and of course our special guests – Mike Sheahan, Caro Wilson, Max Gawn, and Adam Tomlinson. Our auctioneer Michael Teague of Ray White was also amazing – it must be some sort of record getting $10,000 to buy nothing! I can't thank you all enough for the easy, unwavering support you all give us.

“This year, the weather for the golf was outstanding, and everyone seemed to really enjoy the dinner. Thanks again, and [I] look forward to doing it all again in January 2023.”
