Acorn Group has launched Street Cover, a new insurance brand aimed at the UK's growing number of delivery drivers, many of whom risk being underinsured while working for food, parcel and courier platforms.
The product offers hire-and-reward cover for individuals using personal vehicles to make deliveries, whether for one company or across multiple platforms. Drivers can choose between annual or 30-day policies, with the brand operating independently of any delivery platform to ensure coverage regardless of how drivers work.
The move comes as delivery driving continues to expand in the UK, with more people using cars, motorbikes and scooters for flexible work. Industry observers noted that many drivers mistakenly assume their standard car insurance or business-use policies cover delivery work. However, UK law requires Hire & Reward insurance for transporting goods for payment, and claims made under standard policies are often rejected.
Alongside hire-and-reward, drivers frequently need additional protection such as goods in transit insurance for items carried and public liability coverage for injury or damage while on the job. Costs can be significant, with annual hire-and-reward premiums averaging around £1,100, though short-term or pay-as-you-go policies are available.
Without proper cover, drivers risk fines, licence points, vehicle seizure or being left personally liable in the event of an accident.
Acorn said the product responds to a clear market gap. Many mainstream insurers either do not offer delivery coverage or only provide it via specialist extensions, leaving drivers exposed to financial and legal risks. Street Cover is positioned to offer a straightforward solution at a time when the number of part-time and full-time delivery workers continues to rise.
Earlier this month, Acorn Group has rebranded its two flagship businesses, Acorn Insurance and Haven Insurance. The update included new logos, improved colour paletters and refreshed imagery.
