Admiral Group names new chair and non-executive director | Insurance Business UK
The British insurance giant Admiral Group has today announced the appointment of Mike Rogers (pictured) as chair and non-executive director.
Subject to regulatory approval and his appointment’s approval at the Admiral AGM on April 27, 2023, Rogers will succeed Annette Court. Court, who will retire from the board at the AGM, first joined Admiral’s board in 2012, becoming chair in 2017.
With over three decades of experience in international financial services, Rogers was formerly group CEO of LV= from 2006 until 2016, overseeing its transformation in the general insurance and life and pensions markets. Before that, he worked with Barclays Bank for 20 years where he held several senior roles including as MD of UK Retail Banking and MD of Small Business Banking.
Rogers is currently chair of the global information services company Experian plc, and the pensions, investments and insurance provider Aegon UK. He also serves as an independent non-executive director at NatWest Group plc, as chair of its Group Sustainable Banking Committee and as a member of its Group Performance and Remuneration Committee. He was previously a non-executive director of the Association of British Insurers (ABI).
Commenting on the news, Justine Roberts, senior independent director of the Admiral board, who led the appointment process for the new chair, said: “We are delighted to have Mike taking on the chair at Admiral following a rigorous assessment of external and internal candidates. I believe his knowledge and expertise will be of benefit to both the board and the management team.
“On behalf of the board, I would like to thank Annette for her remarkable contribution, for guiding the group through the pandemic and for agreeing to stay on to oversee the successful CEO transition from David Stevens to Milena Mondini de Focatiis. We wish her well for the future.”
Incoming chair Rogers said it was an honour to become chair of Admiral as it celebrates its 30th anniversary year. The group is known for its strong performance and unique culture, he said, and he is excited to work with Admiral CEO Milena Mondini de Focatiis and the management team to capitalise on forthcoming opportunities and grow the business.
Mondini de Focatiis said: “I am pleased to welcome Mike on to the group board and look forward to working with him and the rest of the board as we continue to deliver on our promises to our stakeholders. On behalf of all my colleagues, I would like to thank Annette for the incredible support she has provided to me, her dedication to both the business and the board and the wisdom she shared with us all.”
Chair of the board, Court, said it had been an “absolute privilege” to serve in her role, adding that Rogers was an excellent choice for the future chair and is taking on this role at an exciting time for the group as it continues to deliver on its diversification strategy.
Court added: “I wish Mike, Milena and the wider Admiral team every success.”
