The corporate insurer arm of industry giant Allianz has announced its entrance into the contingency insurance segment with a new senior hire in London.

Allianz Global Corporate and Specialty (AGCS) added Clare Dowling to the entertainment team as a senior underwriter. She will report to Ian Mercer, the London-based regional entertainment head.

Dowling’s appointment will enable AGCS to expand its focus on covering event cancellation, non-appearance, prize indemnity, contract bonus, over redemption and adverse weather risk for activities like film-making.

“The appointment of Clare represents a critical step and investment in the expansion of the entertainment group in London as well as our product and coverage offerings,” Mercer said.

“Her deep understanding of the contingency sector, as well as her strong contacts in the industry, will be a fantastic addition to our team,” Mercer continued.

With nearly 10 years of industry experience, Dowling has worked on a range of contingency insurance for companies including Markel International.

The addition of Dowling to the AGCS entertainment team follows several new recruits in the US, Australia, France and Germany.

“Our global expansion… means that AGCS now offers a truly global leading entertainment product suite in film, live entertainment and contingency - with additional segments on the horizon,” said Lauren Bailey, AGCS global head of entertainment.
