ArgoGlobal Assicurazioni S.p.A. has named its new chief underwriting officer.

Effective immediately, Marco Serra is succeeding Mario Borrelli who has taken on the role of technical and commercial coordinator and special projects director. Serra made the switch from Navigators where he served as underwriting manager for professional and management liability in Milan.

The new CUO, whose more than two decades of insurance career began in Italy with Generali and B&A, also spent time in the UK at Heath Lambert, Willis, and Special Risks. In 2006 Serra made an Italian comeback to work at Gruppo GPA before joining AIG in Milan and London as well as ANV in Barcelona.

“Marco is a consummate insurance professional who will strengthen our growing team and presence here in Italy,” commented ArgoGlobal Assicurazioni chief executive Giovanni Tucci.

“As an agile and insurtech-friendly insurer with an innovative culture and an unswerving focus on the needs of insureds, we see huge potential for growth in this market. Marco’s experience both in Italy and at Lloyd’s will be key to our strategic plans for expansion.”

Serra will be based in Rome.

Meanwhile Tucci has offered nice words for the company’s previous CUO, whose new remit includes overseeing the existing product offering and producer relationships, ensuring technical support for the team, and leading the European surety network in Italy.

“I would like to thank Mario for his continued and vital contribution to ArgoGlobal Assicurazioni,” stated the CEO. “His expertise has been invaluable and he will continue to serve the company on key projects. I look forward to continuing to work with him.”
