Aventum Group's Consilium appoints COO

Consilium, an international (re)insurance broker under the Aventum Group, has announced the appointment of Suzanne Bazire as chief operating officer.

As COO, Bazire will take charge of Consilium’s operations across all of its people and processes.  She will be responsible for standardising processes in all divisions to ensure a scalable infrastructure aligned with the company’s growth plans.

Bazire joins Consilium with 20 years of insurance experience, having begun her career as a wholesale account handler in aviation and marine at Tysers. She later moved to Marsh McLennan to specialise in Latin American aviation, then worked at Integro as senior account executive and contingency operations manager. She returned to Tysers in 2020 as the divisional operations director of retail.

“I was immediately struck by the infectious entrepreneurial positive attitude at Consilium,” she said. “The people are impressive and work hard to do the right thing for our clients.  With a 50/50 gender split globally, and an average age of 30 they show diversity in practice across this $1.1 billion insurance group. It’s not hard to see why I was attracted to join them.  In real terms they are at the start of what promises to be a thrilling journey. I’m excited to be a part of that and use my experience to help shape its development.”

Bazire is the third senior leadership hire announced by Consilium in recent months, with the company having just installed Nicola Chapman as the leader of its new in-house claims team last November.

The appointment of a new COO also points to Consilium’s continued growth, according to CEO and managing partner James Baird, who noted that the company has been on a steady path of “attracting leading talent” since its launch 18 months ago.

“We launched our DUA Service eXponential back in June, I joined the business earlier this year, we then launched ProEx, our Professional Executive Risks team including a new office in Guernsey, and we’ve now hired a COO, a head of claims and established a dedicated in-house claims team for Consilium, all in the space of a few months,” said Baird. “Consilium’s global operations are now of such a scale and size that warrants a dedicated COO. 2023 will be nothing short of transformational as we establish ourselves in new territories and product lines around the world and Suzanne’s role will be central in allowing us to scale while maintaining high quality control.”
