It’s fair to say things are going quite well for Gwent insurance broker Quote Detective.

The firm, based in Pontypool, recently saw its turnover hit £1.8 million on GWP of £12 million – a leap from £500,000 turnover on £3 million GWP in February last year. That surge in growth has now prompted the company to unveil new plans – including a host of business signings.

Staff levels at the firm have increased from an initial 13 to 45 already – and now jobs are poised to be boosted even further with 10 staff to be taken on this month and a further 12 during May.

“We have new insurance agencies including Equity and Markerstudy which further extends our footprint enabling us to quote to even more people. Both companies are highly respected, established insurance providers with excellent FCA ratings which provides our customers with peace of mind and a quality product,” said Quote Detective pricing director Gareth Evans (pictured).

“What this all means in practice for Quote Detective is more sales, higher turnover and an immediate need for more staff. We will be taking on a further ten staff in April and another dozen in May to support this growth.

According to Evans, insurers have been taking notice of the firm’s conversions of traditionally difficult business and have been impressed by its performance.

“We have been on Compare The Market and Confused.com for several months and will be adding MoneySupermarket car in May/June,” he said. “We anticipate that this will boost our sales by 25-30%.

“With van we will be going live on Moneysupermarket in May and Confused van later in the summer. By the end of the summer we aim to be selling £600,000+ of van policies on a monthly basis.

“The process of signing new partners can take time as we are all authorised by FCA and checks need to be undertaken but we have a good team.”

The firm, a phone-based insurance specialist, is recruiting at all levels and has now established a 4,000 sq ft office space at Johnsey Estates.
