Managing general agents (MGAs) are taking on a more central role within the UK’s commercial insurance ecosystem, reflecting a broader shift in broker strategies and risk placement preferences.
No longer confined to specialised or hard-to-place risks, MGAs are now viewed as critical partners due to their underwriting expertise and operational flexibility.
Now, Insurance Business UK (IBUK) has released its annual Brokers on MGAs report for 2025, providing insight into which MGAs are delivering strong performance and service across the market.
The findings are based on feedback from brokers across the country, reflecting trends in underwriting, product innovation, and market responsiveness.
The growing role of MGAs is closely linked to structural changes in the insurance industry, including a reassessment of underwriting risk appetite by carriers, increased demand for tailored coverage, and an uptick in technology adoption. These factors have enabled MGAs to position themselves as efficient, responsive partners for brokers seeking bespoke solutions.
To compile its rankings, IBUK surveyed insurance brokers nationwide, asking them to evaluate MGA partners against 10 key criteria. These included:
MGAs receiving an average score of 4 or above in any one category were recognised as 5-Star recipients. Those with scores of 4 or more across all categories received All-Star recognition.
Brokers also ranked their top three MGAs across 16 key product lines, with gold, silver, and bronze awards issued accordingly. Additionally, three standout insurance products earned the “Brokers’ Pick” title based on volume of broker support.
The 2025 edition of the report is sponsored by the Managing General Agents’ Association (MGAA).
“We believe that our success is built on creating and delivering the right products to the right people,” it said in a statement.
With over 20 years of operations, DUAL said it remains committed to local trading models and a scalable approach to underwriting that supports both clients and distribution partners.
