The Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) has introduced new leadership-focused training programmes that will begin in October.

These two programmes are geared towards fostering personal performance, effective team leadership, and robust business development, offering professionals tools to excel in their roles and drive business.

The first is called Building a World Class Advisory Practice and is tailored for individuals working within the financial advice sector.

Developed in partnership with SME growth advisory firm Elephant’s Child, this course is designed to amplify the strength and value of UK advisory businesses. It is aligned with the FCA’s consumer duty principles and provides a comprehensive methodology for business expansion, including a custom-designed business plan that encompasses a three-year strategy and a one-year action plan.

Topics covered by the programme include:

  • Clarity and opportunities
  • Profitability
  • Efficiency, scalability, and stability
  • New client acquisition
  • Asset acquisition
  • Professional connections
  • Exit value

The second programme, Managers as Coaches, is an 8-week programme focused on equipping managers with coaching skills that help support both individual and team development.

It was developed in collaboration with the leadership development platform Better Manager, which was founded by Stephane Panier, formerly the financial director (Europe) at Google.

The Managers as Coaches course aims to deliver the following learning outcomes:

  • Enhanced people management skills
  • Techniques designed to enhance communication skills through coaching conversations
  • Skills to initiate and engage in meaningful conversations that establish expectations, cultivate accountability and champion team members
  • Coaching techniques designed to unlock engagement and productivity
  • Coaching techniques designed to cultivate personal growth and development

Contents and capabilities director Ian Simons commented on the launch of the new programmes and said the CII is eager to be expanding its range of tools for professional development.

“The ‘Building a World Class Advisory Practice’ and ‘Managers as Coaches’ courses have been carefully designed to equip learners with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in a professional environment and strengthen their business practices,” said Simons.

Last month, the CII’s Broking Community New Generation group published an ESG guide for SME brokers
